Do You Actually Need A Liver Detox?

Let's talk about liver detox...and no, I'm not about to sell you a detox 🫖 🙄 I mean, let's talk about what your liver does naturally, and how you can support it!

There are two (three if you count transportation) phases of liver detoxification.

Phase I addresses oxidation of harmful toxins, which produces free radicals in the body. These free radicals can cause DNA damage if not quickly paired up and moved down the detox pathway.

Phase II addresses conjugation, the pairing together of chemical metabolites, via glucuronidation, acetylation, esterification, etc.

Phase III addresses transportation, moving these metabolites out of the body either through kidney filtration and excreted via the urine, or mixed with bile in the small intestine and excreted via 💩

There can be a lot of signs that point to a sluggish liver, such as:

-Acne

-Poor blood sugar

-Brain fog

-Depression/fatigue

-Digestive issues

-Estrogen dominance (irregular periods, low libido, etc.)

Ways to Support Phase I, II, and III:

- Eat plenty of fruits and veggies (sources of antioxidants, polyphenols, flavoids, etc.)

-Include sulfur containing foods (cruciferous veggies, garlic, onions, meat, eggs)

-Include enough quality protein in your diet (the body needs amino acids and Vitamin B12)

-Supplement with TUDA, NAC, liposomal/injectable Glutathione

-Stay hydrated, this is essential for optimal digestion and kidney filtration

-Limit/avoid things that bring direct stress to the liver such as NSAIDs, alcohol, PEDs, tobacco, etc.
