Are Statins Really Safe?

"My Dr. put me on a statin because my cholesterol was high..."

Eesh.

Low cholesterol isn't something to strive for, it serves a vital role in the body, in fact, your liver MAKES cholesterol (about 75% of serum cholesterol is from the liver).

It's needed to:

-Help aid in the production of sex hormones

-Help aid the liver in the production of bile (needed to emulsify fats in digestion)

-Help aid in the creation of human tissues in the body

So if high cholesterol is bad and low cholesterol is bad, what is a person to do?

Well, we need to take a look at the bigger picture, and not just ostracize one component.

Looking at variables such as:

-Lipid particle size / lipid oxidation

-High blood pressure

-High blood glucose / insulin resistance

-TG/HDL ratio

-Chronic inflammation

-Food selection (easily oxidized fats especially)

-Overall stress management

There are key to ensuring better cardiovascular health.

Merely being prescribed a statin, which has been shown to deplete the body of CoQ10 (an antioxidant needed for the growth and maintenance of cells) and vitamin K2 (important for overall cardiovascular health), thus actually increasing your risk for cardiovascular damage, shouldn't be the final word of the matter.

Lipid particle size, signs of oxidation, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation should all be explored for the sake of the client.

I encourage you to do your research and get second opinions when it comes to your health!
